OUR MISSION:

First Inkling is more than an international literary magazine and online bibliophile hotspot. First Inkling is a snapshot of a generation. Through the prose, verse, and in-depth interviews of tomorrow’s preeminent writers, First Inkling explores the cultural, intellectual, and political ethos of their world. First Inkling is a visionary print and online medium dedicated to seeking out the most talented student authors in the English language, and publishing their work alongside criticism from the most important writers of our age. First Inkling’s insightful literary fusion presents today’s emerging zeitgeist to a worldwide literary and university audience in an accessible, fresh, and exciting way.

WHAT IS FIRST INKLING?

We are the first international student literary magazine.

HOW DO I SUBMIT?

WHAT GENRES DO YOU ACCEPT?

Short stories, poetry, graphic fiction, one-act plays, short film (screenplays), novel chapters, you name it.

WHO CAN SUBMIT?

Any student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university at the community college, undergrad, graduate, or post doctorate level, anywhere in the world.

DO YOU PUBLISH EVERYTHING THAT IS SUBMITTED?

No, because we attract work from so many universities around the globe, our standards are exceedingly high.

WILL YOU CONSIDER SUBMISSIONS IN A LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH?

Yes, provided it is submitted with an English translation.  If it is selected for publication, it will be published alongside an English translation, however, we will not necessarily use the provided English translation as we may contract our own translation specialist.

WHO CAN GET MEMBERSHIP?

Anyone!

WHO CAN BECOME AN ASSOCIATE EDITOR?

Any student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university at the community college, undergrad, graduate, or post doctorate level, anywhere in the world--so long as they are intelligent and have drive.
